The Inaugural Rock to Victory half marathon will feature the Dallas Running Club Pace Team as their official race pacing team. The Dallas Running Club Pace Team promises to provide fun and excitement for both first time and experienced half marathoners looking to reach their running goals – whether that's a personal best or just getting across the finish line. We have 2-person teams of pacers for 6 different popular goal finish times. If you sign up online to connect with your pace team leaders, you will have the chance to receive a special gift from Dallas Running Club at the race packet pick-up. Get to know more about your pacers know by reading their bios and looking at their pictures so you'll have a friendly, familiar face race day morning, cheering you on!
Each Pace Leader will run even splits (every mile will be run in the same amount of time) throughout the half marathon, and by following your Pace Team leader, you'll cross the line within a couple minutes of your goal finishing time. During the race, your Pace Team leader will also remind you to drink and eat, as well as offer words of encouragement. Keep in mind, you don’t have to stick with your Pace Team leader the whole race - we want you to run your own race according to how you feel. The pace leaders are merely there as a guide. If the pace feels too slow in the beginning of the race, that's normal. Remember, it's a long race and what feels slow at the start will help ensure you have energy to get through the full 13.1 miles! If the pace is too fast, slow down. If you feel like you can go faster, speed up. It's your race, and we're here to help you enjoy it so that you will want to come back year after year.
We have 2-person pace teams for the following goal half marathon finish times: 1:40, 1:50, 2:00, 2:10, 2:20, 2:30.
Sign up online for FREE to follow your DRC Pace Team between now and race day. The first 100 runners to register with the DRC pace team will receive a free gift at packet pick-up. Sign Up Here...
Runners just like you! These are 12 energetic Dallas Running Club members who want to help you achieve your goals. All of them are either coaches or participants in the Dallas Running Club's half or full marathon training programs, held every spring and fall. Thank you, DRC Pace Team - Kyle Wills, Matt Mortimer, Brooke Best, Kristi Madden, Stephanie Hill, Hari Garimella, Marcie Adame, Patrick Moore, Kortney Klein, Vicki Connerly, Pat Metcalf, and Genevieve Medina!
Kyle Wills has lived in the Dallas area for 8 years. He began seriously running in 2004 as part of a local marathon-training program to get in shape and lose weight. Since that time, he has completed seven marathons including Chicago and New York City. As a member of the Dallas Running Club since 2006, Kyle has gotten more serious about his training with the goal of qualifying for the Boston Marathon (which he missed by just 3 minutes last year). Beyond all the performance goals, Kyle plans to be a runner for life and is a strong proponent of running for health and fitness at all ages and abilities. Kyle is definitely excited about running the new half marathon course this year.
After running cross-country and track in high school and then racing the occasional 5K, Matt Mortimer began training for longer distance races in 2006. He has completed the Marines Corps Marathon and Dallas White Rock Marathon during the last couple years. Matt paced the 1:40 group for the 2008 White Rock Half Marathon. Besides running, Matt also enjoys cycling, open water swimming, trail hiking, and participating in nature conservation projects. Matt is active with the Preservation Society for Spring Creek Forest in Garland, Texas.
After graduating from Baylor, Brooke moved to Dallas in 2002. Brooke has completed six Marathons and numerous Half Marathons including a Boston qualifier which she exchanged for an incredible finish at Boston earlier this year. As an active member of the Dallas Running club, you can find her leading the pack most weekends as a participant in the clubs training program.
Kristi has always wanted to be a runner. You know, one of those people who actually get grouchy if they are injured and can't run or their schedule didn't allow them to get in their weekly mileage? She tried and tried for years to mold herself into a runner. She dressed like a runner; she did her regular jaunt around the neighborhood on a fairly regular basis....and hated every minute of it. Five miles was always her max. You can't even imagine the excuses she could come up with to stop when she was getting close to that five mile mark! One of the things that Kristi is very good at is following instructions - she is probably the only person that actually watched the DVD that came with the blender. So a couple of years ago Kristi signed up for a formal training program. Before she even realized it she was running around the lake, then she was running around the lake from her house, then she was running half marathons. She hasn't stopped since.
Hari started running in early 2006 in order reduce his weight. During the last 3 years, he has lost more than 70 lbs and now runs mainly because he enjoys it, especially after realizing the benefits of running. He has completed 4 half marathons, 3 full marathons, several 10Ks and 15Ks. Hari loves the friendly environment at DRC which encourages and helps runners meet their goals. His goal is help new and experienced runners complete their goal races. He is also excited that his wife has joined the DRC Half training program. One of his main desires is to one day, run a marathon with his son.
Stephanie found her passion for running when she moved to Dallas almost 5 years ago. Since then she has completed numerous races of all distances including her most recent marathon in San Antonio and half marathon in Austin. Her favorite distance is the half marathon and her favorite run is a loop around White Rock Lake. Before joining the DRC 2008 Fall Training Program as a pace leader she trained with Luke’s Locker for 2 years. For the 2009 Programs Stephanie has assumed the role of Assistant Director and Pace Leader and she has recently become a RRCA certified running coach. Her goal is to share her passion for running by encouraging individuals of all fitness levels to get out there and get moving!
Patrick Moore works at REI and as a Government professor at Richland College. His first ever run was on April 18, 2007. Patrick completed the DRC Half in 2007, the White Rock Marathon in 2007 (finish time of 4:14) and the Cowtown Half in 2008 (finish time of 1:52). He has completed numerous 5K and 10Ks.
Marcie Adame: "I've been running & training for about 2 years. I started with the Freedom Run on 9/11, which is my birthday, so I run it every year. My goal was 10 running events by the end of 2006. When I did the Rock as a relay, I realized that I was ready to do the half. I spent the next 6 months running half marathons in the Love the Half Challenge. I discovered that my body was recovering faster and more efficiently after each race, so I set my sights on running a full at the Rock. Before I had even run my first marathon, I found myself registering for the next in 2008. I completed my first marathon in 4:20 despite the wind, rain, and cold. I enjoy pacing novice runners and walkers. I find it inspiring. Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Chardonnay in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming: Woo Hoo, what a ride!"
Prior to joining the DRC in 2007, Vicki completed a few 5ks and 10ks over a span of 25 years. She has now completed 4 half marathons, numerous 5ks, 10ks, 15ks, the Oklahoma City Marathon in April 2008 and the Dallas White Rock Marathon in December 2008. So far this year, Vicki plans to run in the Credit Union Cherry Blossom Run in Washington, D.C., Rock to Victory Half Marathon, OKC Half Marathon, Heels and Hills Half Marathon, DRC Half Marathon and the Dallas White Rock Marathon. Vicki hopes to eventually run in the Falmouth Road Race on Cape Cod in her hometown. Her ultimate goal is to complete a 50k. Vicki was a pace leader for the DRC 2008 Spring and Fall marathon training programs and was a 2:10 pacer for the DRC Half Marathon. She is now a coach and pace leader for the 10:00-11:30 2009 Spring Half and Full Marathon training program. Vicki is proud to be a member of the Dallas Running Club and she hopes that she can help people learn to love running and help them achieve their goals.
Kortney started running in law school when her friend convinced her to train for a triathlon. She started with the 6min/1min/walk program and was hooked. She has now run more 5Ks and half marathons than she can count and in training for her 3rd marathon. The Goofy Challenge is on her radar screen for January 2010, which might indicate she has finally lost it. Kortney loves the social aspect of running with a group and can no longer stand to run alone or listen to an iPod while running!
Genevieve’s dream job brought her to Dallas in 2005 from Ft. Lauderdale, Fl. She started running in 2007 for exercise, but felt needed something to work for. Genevieve trained for 2 months to run the White Rock 'N Roll. Having never run more than a mile in her life she finished the race in 1:04:56. It was such an incredible feeling to cross the finish line - she was hooked. Genevieve got serious about training and running afterward. Since then she has lost 40lbs and hasn’t stopped running. Last year she ran 3 half marathons and this year she hopes to complete her first full marathon.
“My Mom thought I would be dead by the time I turned 40!” That probably wasn’t too far from the truth. Almost 5 years ago Pat Metcalf tipped the scales at 340 lbs. Needless to say she didn’t do a lot of running then. After gastric bypass surgery she was looking for a way to stay active. A friend suggested she try running. Her first goal was to run a 5K which was a struggle to complete but she did. Then came a half marathon and eventually last November a full. Pat’s life now is a far cry from her previous sedentary lifestyle. “For the first 6 months I hated running and just did it to complete the steps of the training program. Then after 6 months something magical happened and I looked forward to my runs and felt something wasn’t right when I went several days without one.” Pat doesn’t believe you have to run to qualify for Boston but holds more to the philosophy of running because it is fun and it is a great way to stay active and healthy. If you really asked her though she would confess that the main reason she runs is so she can eat more chocolate!!
