Farewell our dear friend Don.
There was never a Saturday that passed that you would not see Don Ostroff looping White Rock Lake. The only exception would be family or
church obligations. Don was a man with incredible perseverance that not
only showed in his running, but up until his last moments on this earth.
Don was running at the lake on Saturday September 15th when he was found
near a tree at the bottom of Winfrey Point by those who knew him. He was
leaning against the tree and those around knew this was not normal for
him. It was thought he was suffering from a heart attack, but later we
learned he had a torn aorta and would not just endure emergency surgery
for this, but 3 additional serious heart surgeries. God called Don home
on Monday September 17th.
Don was an icon at the lake and always had a friendly smile, encouraging
words and a loving way. "Don never said a bad thing about any one and no one ever said a bad thing about him", said friend Larry Martin. He never complained about the heat, cold,
injuries or anything. Don loved his family, God, his friends and he
loved the lake and his running. He will be missed and not a Saturday
will pass that he will not be thought of by the runners that know him at
the lake.
Plans are being coordinated by DRC Membership Director Angela Tortorice, a friend of Don's, to place a permanent memorial beside the tree that
Don was leaning against when he realized he was not well. If you would
like to contribute to the memorial, please email Angela at angela@dallasrunningclub.com
