Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How do I know if I can finish a half marathon race?
A: This program is longer than most (20 weeks) because we want to help a broader cross-section of the public to reach the goal of finishing 13.1 miles. If you can already complete a 3-5 mile run and are running or walking at least 30 minutes a couple times a week, then the program can help you achieve your goal if you are joining it at the kickoff on June 23.

Q: Where are the group runs, both the Saturday ones and the Wednesday night hill training, held at? I couldn't find the location on the website.
A: When people become eligible for the training program, they receive their first training email with location details of the next run. The locations of the runs are not posted on the website for the public.

Q: I couldn't make the first run/walk on June 23 - how do I get the orientation packet and is it still worth joining? Is it too late to join?
A: It's definitely still worth joining. We'll have the orientation folders at other group runs, DRC races, and try to have some at the Wednesday night hill training. There's still 19 weeks of the program after that first group run, so you should still do the program!

Q: What if my company is interested in being a sponsor for the training program or even for the half marathon itself?
A: This is definitely available. Why would you not want to be associated with an action aimed at getting people off the couch and getting them active? Email libby@dallasrunningclub.com or call 214-674-1643 to discuss sponsorship options (this phone number is only for sponsorship inquiries, not for general inquiries).

Q: If it is raining, do we still have a group run or is it cancelled?
A: We will treat group runs like we treat races - that is, any amount of rain is fine, the run will still happen. But if there is lightning at the time of the start of run, we will delay if we think it will pass through the area quickly and otherwise cancel. The decision to cancel or delay is not made until the start of the run.

Q: There's a lot of talk about different shirts; what are all these shirts about?
A: There are different shirts floating around, and there's been some questions, so let me explain.
New Member Shirt - for becoming a DRC member, you get a black logo-ed cotton club t-shirt.  You can pick up this shirt at the DRC monthly races by bringing in your membership letter that arrived in the mail.
Half Marathon Shirt - this is the event shirt you automatically get with your race entry.  You can pick this up with your race packet the week of the half marathon or race day at the event, not before.
DRC Distance Team Tech Shirt - when you signed up for the half marathon online, you could optionally pay $20 to buy one of our training program shirts.  You can order them the mornings of group runs or mail in the order form available online.  Please expect it to take about 3 weeks to get your shirt because we keep very little inventory at the clubhouse and these shirts have been selling well.  See what they look like...

Q: What if I have other questions not covered in this webpage?
A: Email libby@dallasrunningclub.com and we'll get it answered!
