About 160 runners and walkers joined the Dallas Running Club the morning of Saturday, June 23, to kickoff the half marathon training program. We checked everyone in, had liability waivers signed, and gave out orientation packet folders.
DRC President Libby Jones welcomed all the program participants and thanked them for joining the club that morning to start the journey towards the half marathon, whether it's the first one or not. She then announced the pace group leaders for that morning and told participants to break into the groups to get started.
Participants had the choice of doing 3 or 6 miles based on their current fitness level. There were multiple pace groups for running, a group for those alternating walking and running (Galloway method), and two pace groups for walkers. We had used flour marking to mark the course, there were a few signs up too to keep people on the path, water bottles were available on the course, and then we had 24 oz water bottles and Gatorade Endurance Formula sports drink available at the finish.
