This will be a 16 week affordable training program to help new and veteran runners complete the half and full marathon distances in a fun, social, non-competitive atmosphere. We want to motivate and encourage runners to complete the training and distance runs and get to the starting line injury-free. Group runs help participants stay accountable to their program.
This training program is $25. We are providing this very low cost program only for DRC members (so that once you are active, you stay active year-round with us) who participate in our signature race and primary club fundraiser, the Dallas Running Club Half Marathon. There are two requirements for this low-cost program:
You must be a member of the Dallas Running Club through to the end of the program (December 14).
You must register for the Dallas Running Club Half Marathon. Be sure to join DRC before registering for the race so you get the lower entry fee available only to members!
Participants receive the training schedule, a short sleeve DRC Distance Team tech shirt (can be picked up late August at a group run), organized runs with your pace group every Saturday morning, social group run every Wednesday night (great for speedwork or hill training), and water and sports drink on Saturdays.
Coaches pick their own routes for each run. Many runs will start from the DRC clubhouse but, depending on the coach, may at different times start from other locations in the Dallas area within 5-10 minutes from the clubhouse, so still in the immediate vicinity. We have coaches to advise every pace, from 6:00 minute per mile runners to 12:00 minute per mile and slower. Saturday run start times are at the discretion of the coach, but usually start between 6:30 and 8 am, often depending on weather and distance. Wednesday night runs start at 7 pm generally but may move earlier or later dependent what time sunset is.
Program closes to new entrants Saturday, July 12, at 11:59 pm and is capped at 400 participants. You must sign up online for the program.
July 9, 7 pm, at Winfrey Point at White Rock Lake. To get to Winfrey Point: From the intersection of Buckner Blvd and Garland Rd, go south on Garland Rd for 0.6 miles. Take a right on Emerald Isle (Barbec’s restaurant is there at the turn) and go approx. 0.5 miles. Take a left on Winfrey Point Drive at the dead-end, just past the ball fields on your left. The building at the top of the hill is Winfrey Point.
At the meeting, we will give an overview of the program. We will review runner etiquette and safety. We will highlight some of the fall races we recommend for getting real race experience before the big event you are training for. We will also take any questions about the program.

Coming off the success of our half marathon training program in the fall of 2007, the Dallas Running Club (DRC) offered a very affordable training program for both half and full marathon distances. The program was designed to help new and veteran runners complete the half and full marathon distances in a fun, social, non-competitive atmosphere. We wanted to motivate and encourage runners to complete the training and distance runs and get to the starting line injury-free. Group runs helped participants stay accountable to their program.
This training program was only $20 and you had to be a member of the Dallas Running Club through to the end of the program (May 1st). This program was open to walkers, those that want to alternate walking and running intervals, and runners.

Take an active role by helping lead a team around your pace, motivating and giving advice to your pace group, being available by email for questions, and developing new training routes for the group.
You don’t have to be super, you just have to be there! The most important thing is to be dependable and be friendly – be someone who can encourage others and attends most of the runs.
Pace Leaders receive free entry to the DRC Half Marathon, free training team tech shirts, and other DRC apparel. And of course, they don’t pay the training program fee!
